Gender inequality and the climate crisis are deeply interconnected challenges that disproportionately affect women and girls, especially in vulnerable communities.
In response, the “Linking Lives: Gender and Climate” campaign was launched on October 4, 2024, as a collaborative initiative between Breakthrough Movement and the EmPower Program, supported by UN Women and UNEP.
What began as a collaborative initiative has since evolved into Breakthrough Movement’s ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality and climate justice through storytelling, advocacy, and youth-led action.

A new storytelling campaign is on the way. Linking Voices will spotlight inspiring stories, community voices, and youth perspectives through creative digital storytelling and bold visual campaigns. Stay tuned as we continue exploring the connections between gender, climate, and social change.

Photo Competition: Gender and Climate - 2026
The Photo Competition: Gender and Climate is co-designed and implemented by Breakthrough Movement in collaboration with UN Women Cambodia under the EmPower programme. It invites young women and gender-diverse youth (16–30) in Cambodia to use photography and storytelling to explore the links between gender equality and climate change, amplify underrepresented voices, and highlight women’s leadership and lived experiences of climate impacts.
Linking Lives digital campaign - 2025
The “Linking Lives: Gender and Climate” campaign was launched on October 4, 2024, as a collaborative initiative between Breakthrough Movement and the EmPower Program, supported by UN Women and UNEP. The campaign promotes gender equality and climate justice through storytelling, advocacy, and youth-led engagement. Activities include online and offline campaigns, the Linking Lives Podcast series that amplifies women’s voices in climate action, and community outreach across Cambodia.
